TAKE-UP RATIO is the relation between the amount of medium paper and liner paper utilized by a single facer to produce corrugated board.

THREE METHODS USED TO MEASURE THE T.U.R.

1) Measuring feeding speed of paper.

TUR = medium paper speed / liner paper speed

2) Measuring the length of the corrugated board

T.U.R. = Medium paper used to produce certain length of board/Liner paper used to produce the same length of board

3) Using a Take Up Ratio Monitor

The most accurate method of all, accurate to the third decimal point, i.e. 1.326 plus or minus 0.001 is the T.U.R. monitor.

Description

TAKE-UP RATIO is the relation between the amount of medium paper and liner paper utilized by a single facer to produce corrugated board. This ratio lets us know the utilization of medium paper in our process and having an adequate supervision over the parameters that control this factor can represent significant savings for your company.
The take up ratio on each of the flutes you run is one of the most important areas of possible huge savings that can increase your profit dramatically. If you can select a flute profile with a take up ratio lower than your normal profile you can save huge sums of money.

THREE METHODS USED TO MEASURE THE T.U.R.

1) Measuring feeding speed of paper.
At a constant speed, take an accurate, digital tachometer and measure the paper speed of the medium and the paper speed of the
liner and divide to get the ratio. Again, not all that accurate but better than measuring wet paper.
TUR = medium paper speed / liner paper speed
2) Measuring the length of the corrugated board
Stop the single facer, put two black marks say 1,000 mm apart on the medium. Then jog the single facer and then cut out that piece
of board and find the two black marks and measure the length of the board (liner) between the two marks. Divide the medium
length by the liner length to get the ratio which is the TUR.

T.U.R. = Medium paper used to produce certain length of board/Liner paper used to produce the same length of board

3) Using a Take Up Ratio Monitor
The most accurate method of all, accurate to the third decimal point, i.e. 1.326 plus or minus 0.001 is the T.U.R. monitor. This
inexpensive device can be hand held and easily moved from machine to machine or permanently mounted to make the
measurements.
